This week focus will be on outlining the production pipeline used for the project. We have two pipelines we are considering at the moment: baking all assets in Substance Painter with a high and low poly asset, or only baking unique assets and using a Substance Designer, tillable texture on modular assets.
Stress testing in Unreal has turned up no errors with using either pipeline. We will continue to look into this further this week and discuss the pros and cons of each so we can decide which pipeline best suits us.
The Art Lead's job is to ensure asset quality control and that the correct pipeline is followed. Once a pipeline is agreed upon a pipeline production document will be produced that will outline the process we need to follow as asset creators. This ensures that everyone is on the same page.
LODs ( level of detail ) will be handled in Unreal; not modeled by artists as separate objects.

Some Artists will be tasked with creating a document that explains the LOD system in Unreal so that the process is understood. Others will be tasked with landscape prototyping and level design ready for the summer internship artists to take over. All of this documentation will also be imperative to smoothly introducing these interns to the pipeline effectively.
We also had a visit from Sean Scott who helped introduce us to different pipelines; explaining the pros and cons of each. It was very useful to hear this from someone who had gone through projects like Journeyman (Second year project) and FYP (final year project) as we learnt how the team should be managed. We are expecting another visit Friday and possibly a visit from another artist.
We will begin work on more assets once we have established the production pipeline.
