VR Visualization Group Project Andean Skies - Week 1

This blog will chronicle the Andean Skies project, an interactive narrative VR experience committed to the principles of cultural heritage, identity and memory. The project's director, Casto Vocal, has over 15 years experience in the video game industry and 9 years teaching in Higher Education.

We have already made good progress with the work and have a playable alpha in Unreal. We have two main archaeological sites that are our focus at the moment, those being Chiripa and Akapana. We also have a museum build that will act as a hub world.

We will be using GitHub for file management and Hack 'n' Plan for project management. The software we will be using includes; Maya, ZBrush, Unreal 4, Substance Designer/Painter and Photoshop.

Today we discussed the art style which is going to be a stylized vision akin to 'What Remains of Edith Finch'. This will be achieved by low poly LODs, some bakes and flat colour textures.

We also discussed the making of a video blog which will take place every Friday. Moreover, we went through the GitHub directory and cleaned it up so that everything was in the correct folder and named as we discussed.

Chiripa and Akapana leads ensured all objects were to the correct grid scale and had pivots snapped correctly for easy assembly in Unreal. Our Chiripa artist has begun work on the Chiripa court. The Chiripa artist has finished work on structures and the YayaMama slab. The Akapana lead has completed two terraces of the Akapana. The Museum lead is developing the museum further. The Lead programmer has implemented models into Unreal and is working on LOD (level of detail) to ensure culling works appropriately. The  Designer/landscaper has created grass for the terrain.

The blog should be updated weekly, though a monthly update may be necessary.
